Lifetime Wellness                              CPS                           1  Credit                        Grades 9-12

What is wellness? How do I become more fit? And where do I start? Today’s society has put a renewed focus on living a healthy lifestyle, but with the influence of social media and technology it has become more confusing than ever to separate fact from fiction. Lifetime Wellness looks to answer these questions by emphasizing the skills and strategies for achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through a comprehensive physical education curriculum. Through the use of “PE-by-choice”, students are able to customize their participation in a variety of sports, fitness, recreation, and health activities with a focus on individual goal-setting, personal responsibility, and strategies for incorporating wellness into everyday life. Lifetime Wellness may be repeated as each semester offers a unique curriculum and opportunity to build on previous experience.​

What qualities do people like Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Sue Bird, Mike Krzyzewski have that help their teams to be so successful? What strategies help to improve training and athletic performance? How do you develop a mindset to be successful? Do I have the qualities needed to be a great leader versus an average leader of a team? These are questions that are asked on a daily basis and are not ones that are answered simply. If you are interested in learning more about leadership, athletic performance, and growing your own capacity as a student-athlete then this course is for you. We will investigate leadership and its application in the world of sports through a number of different lenses and situations; with a focus on hard work, attitude, goal setting and a mindset of personal growth and improvement. 

This course will provide students with an opportunity to improve their physical ability while developing a positive mindset. Students will utilize discussion, research methods, and simulations to both grow and develop as leaders. Although this course is designed with the student-athlete in mind, it is recommended for anyone interested in being a leader of a sports team or organization and improving their overall health.
