2025-2026 course offerings


Introduction to Business         CPS        0.5 Credits           Grades 9-12

Students will learn the basic understanding of how businesses are run.  They will learn the process of how a business is started and formed, how it is run, and also how it can end.  Students will also learn the different aspects of running a business including accounting, management, economics, marketing, finance and law.

Music & Business                         CPS        0.5 Credit            Grades 9-12

This course will provide an overview of the music industry and insights into a number of key areas of business related to music. Students will explore a diversity of music industry career paths in areas such as arts management, music products and merchandising, public relations, music production and recording, publishing online music distribution, and music therapy. This course is the equivalent to Intro to Business taught through the lens of the music industry. 


Personal Finance                         CPS        0.5 Credits          Grades 9-12

The material presented in this course will expand the students’ critical thinking and mathematical skills. They will explore situations through which they will become informed citizens, valued employees, and smart consumers.

Main ideas from the curriculum include personal cash management techniques through savings, checking and credit card use, comparing job offers through salary and benefit analysis, budgeting, making smart buying decisions for everyday purchases to major purchases such as car and home, comparing interest on investment dollars and the cost of interest when borrowing money, exploring college costs and financing, and the financial aspects of business management and entrepreneurship. The course will also explore the common financial challenges students will face throughout their lives.

Marketing I                                     CPS        1 Credit    Grades 10-12

This course will embed Portrait of a Learner skills to develop learned concepts and opportunities associated with the marketing field and to the DECA program. 

​Students will review and identify current demographic, societal, and other related market segmentation variables, and study the relationship of the marketing mix (product, price, place, promotion) to their everyday lives. They will also study the marketing functions as they relate to promotion, distribution as well as to international and global markets. The field of marketing will be viewed from both the professional and the consumer perspectives. Students will participate in team and individual problem solving through project development directly related to their studies. DECA competition formatting is utilized as a means to reinforce those skills.

Marketing II                                   CPS/Honors    1 Credit    Grades 11-12
Students will continue to learn the functions of marketing. Since the majority of the course is project based, students are required to complete a DECA based project as it relates to the requirements outlined in the DECA Competitive Events Program. Students will explore the opportunities available in marketing and develop an awareness of the importance of marketing in today’s global economy. Utilizing Portrait of a Learner skills will provide a means for individual student expression of initiative and creativity. The students will be motivated to assume responsibility for self-improvement.

Students will be eligible to join our local Nipmuc DECA chapter and participate in the district, State (SCDC) and International competitions (ICDC). DECA is a marketing club for high school students.  The program prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Additionally, students will be trained in digital marketing through Google’s Fundamentals of Digital Marketing course, which contains 26 modules created by Google trainers. Upon completion of all modules, students will be able to take an exam, which if passed will grant them an award certifying them in digital marketing that can be added to their resumes.

Marketing Research and Applications        Honors    1 Credit    Grade 12

Students will develop all aspects of their written and oral communication skills through the development of extensive research projects relating to all areas of marketing and the application of marketing concepts. Project guidelines will be based upon the DECA Competitive Event Guidelines published each year. Emphasis will be placed on problem solving, research techniques and analysis, project development and organizational skills. Students will be expected to integrate technology into all aspects of their classroom experience. Field experiences are required as related to project topics. 

Students will be eligible to join our local Nipmuc DECA chapter and participate in the district, State (SCDC) and International competitions (ICDC). Students will also be trained in content marketing through HubSpot Academy’s free Content Marketing Certification Course. Students will learn how to craft appealing, share-worthy content that captivates a business audience. This certification will provide students with real-world skills and can be added to their resumes and will help set them apart from other college and job applicants.

Accounting                 CPS/Honors    0.5 credit       Grades 9-12

This introductory accounting course covers the essential concepts of financial accounting, preparing students for personal, social, and business applications. Through projects and practice sets, students gain hands-on experience in common accounting tasks, including double-entry accounting, financial recordkeeping, and business transactions. The course also delves into banking activities and special projects, while introducing students to automated accounting software. Overall, this course equips students with a strong foundation in financial accounting, making it particularly beneficial for those considering a business major.

Microsoft Office                 CPS     0.5 credit     Grades 9-12

If you are interested in increasing your employability and want to differentiate yourself from others, this class is for you. Earning Microsoft Certification acknowledges your expertise in Microsoft products and technologies. During this semester course, students will be required to prepare for certification tests in two Microsoft Office platforms selected by them in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access. To prepare for the Microsoft Application Specialist Certification Exams, students will complete online trainings, projects and practice exams. These exams focus on validating specific skill sets within the Microsoft platforms selected by the student. Adding these skills and certifications to your credentials/resume may be recognized by colleges and/or employers.  The prep material will be provided by the school. Students enrolled in the business-related Innovation Career Pathways are eligible to have the cost of their certification tests funded by a grant. Within the Innovation Career Pathway, students have the option of a business finance path or a business marketing path.

Work Study/Internship                 CPS            Grades 11, 12

The Work Study Program provides an opportunity for students to continue their academic program and school associations and also participate in supervised work experience for graduation credit.  Participating students will attend school for an academic program consisting of graduation requisites plus electives.

The placement will be considered an extension of the school day and one providing an opportunity for application of learning experience encountered in the formal classroom setting.  It also provides an opportunity for career choices through exploration. As an extension of the school day, the students must be willing to accept definite responsibilities and abide by the rules governing this program in order to remain in the program.
